Rayburn High School is encouraging students and staff throughout Pasadena ISD to participate in the RESPECT! Challenge, a national anti-bullying campaign designed to promote positive role models, healthy relationships and respect.
Individuals have two ways to participate in the challenge:
- Weekly Challenge: Create fun gifs, memes and videos that promote positive, respectful behavior online. Individuals will be invited to enter the challenge via Instagram, Twitter and Vine, using #gifRESPECT. Weekly prizes of $100 will be provided over the duration of the competition.
- Regional and National Challenge: What does respect look like? Answer this question with a video or photograph of someone showing respect to another individual and share it at www.therespectchallenge.org. One national winner will receive a $5,000 donation for a school or non-profit of his/her choice, a $5,000 scholarship, a $500 Macy’s gift card and a VIP trip to New York City. Twelve regional winners will each receive a $2,500 donation for a school or non-profit of his/her choice, a $2,500 scholarship and a $250 Macy’s gift card.
The campaign is already underway and will last until November 20. Winners will be announced on December 11.
The RESPECT! Campaign was founded in partnership with FUTURES Without Violence and Macy’s in an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of bullying and increase involvement among communities about simple, positive solutions to problems associated with bullying, teen dating violence, child abuse and domestic violence.
According to campaign representatives, “The premise of the RESPECT! Campaign is that healthy relationships are rooted in mutual respect and that respect must be taught through words and actions, from a very early age. In spotlighting those who model respect in relationships, we are drawing critical attention to the importance of positive role modeling as a key strategy to creating futures without violence.”
Individuals in the district who participate in the campaign can purchase a Pasadena ISD “Be-You-tiful” t-shirt for $15. Please email Joy Brown-Johnson at email@example.com for more details.
