The Pasadena Association of Educational Office Professionals (PAEOP) recently held a scholarship fundraiser for Pasadena ISD at the Office of Libraries and Textbook Materials.

This year, participants used their creativity to raise funds for one deserving senior, helping the student get a jump start on their college education. The student will be named at a special ceremony Thursday night.

This is the second time this school year that PAEOP has hosted a Painting for Scholarships fundraiser, garnering participation from a total of 33 staff and community members in the district.

Painting for Scholarships is among many philanthropic opportunities PAEOP organizes each year. The organization has collected and donated items for the Pasadena Care Center and the daycare center housed at Tegeler, in addition to collecting items for nursing homes, school supply drives and students involved in the Pasadena ISD special education program.

The theme for the organization this year is “Dare to Dream.” The organization’s president Cynthia Gutierrez has been working with members to make those dreams reality.

“My goal was to instill in the members that if we could dream it, it could happen,” Gutierrez said. “PAEOP officers are a great group of ladies who aspire for our organization to be successful, not only with the scholarship that we provide but also in giving back to our community. I was overwhelmed by the donations received from the membership. I am hopeful that next year will be even better.”

Established in 1955, the organization was initially called the Pasadena Education Secretaries Association. The organization operates through the Texas Education Support Staff Association (TESA), a professional development program designed for educational support personnel. PAEOP is open to school support personnel in the district including bus drivers, clinical aides or secretarial staff.

Comprised of more than 40 members, employees involved in PAEOP have the opportunity to meet the needs of Pasadena ISD students, give back to the community, network and receive staff development training.

Members of PAEOP regularly participate in fun activities and invite area professionals to present at the meetings. Participants can also earn credit hours toward paraprofessional supplementary certification pay.
