Hundreds of high school students gathered to celebrate “All Things Disney” at Dobie High for the Outcome-Based Measures Educating Growing Adults (OMEGA) Ball.
Now in its seventh year, the dance gives students in the OMEGA program an opportunity to interact with high school students throughout the district, along with local community members and promotes physical, emotional and overall health and wellness.
“It all started with teachers and paraprofessionals at Dobie who wanted to ensure that students who require our closest care get to have the same experiences as all high school students,” said Tonya Naylor, Dobie ninth grade teacher and the event organizer said.
She credited the success of this year’s ball to the generous contributions of local community members and businesses. The event was sponsored by the Dobie High student body and staff, business owners Glenn Parmlee, Danny Garcia and Mariselle Quijano. The following local businesses provided in-kind donations and discounts: Chick-fil-A on Fairmont, Party City on Fuqua and Little Caesar’s Pizza on Blackhawk.
“We are thankful to everyone who was involved in making this event a memorable experience for our students,” Naylor said. “The students had a wonderful time dancing with Cinderella and Prince Charming, and dining with the Chick-Fil-A cow. It was truly a pleasure to watch all the students enjoy the event.”
