Miller Intermediate student, Leyna Pham, won Honorable Mention in the 2017 River, Lakes, Bays ‘N Bayous Trash Bash T-shirt Art Contest.

The contest, held for the past three years, allows students in grades 1-8 to submit a design illustrating the effects of litter on area waterways. The first place winner’s design is featured on the front of the T-shirts given to thousands of volunteers participating in the largest, single-day waterway cleanup in Texas each spring.

Pham used colored pencils to create her cleanup scene under the direction of art teacher Kim Nguyen.

She will be honored with framed artwork and a certificate at the White Oak Bayou Upper Trash Bash site at noon on Saturday, March 25. Pham’s artwork is displayed at www.trashbash.org.
