GEORGETOWN- The Pasadena J. Frank Dobie High School boys soccer team fell short of their dream for a state championship as the Arlington Sam Houston Texans defeated the Longhorns 2-1 in the UIL state semifinals.
The Longhorns scored the first half’s only goal in the 32nd minute on a penalty kick by Edwin Saldivar (10).
Leading at halftime, the Longhorns held on until the 27th minute when Sergio Martinez (24) of Arlington Sam Houston tied the game on a penalty kick.
A goal with 2:30 left in regulation found the back of the net for Angel Ramirez (10) to put the Texans up 2-1 despite Dobie’s best defensive efforts.
As time ticked off the clock, the Longhorns made their best effort to score and tie the game, however, the Texans defense held strong.
“The amount of support from the community is incredible. I’ve never seen anything like it and it’s something we will always remember.” said Longhorn captain Alejandro Flores (4).
“I’m so proud of each and every one of you,” said Dobie Soccer head coach Justo Manrique. “You are the only ones in Pasadena ISD history to get a medal from this tournament. Every time you look at it, I want you to remember that,” he added.
