Dear Parents,

Welcome back for the 2012-2013 school year!  We are so excited about the coming year!  I just wanted to touch base with you on a few topics to keep our school running smoothly and safely.  First, you are welcome to walk your child/children to class the first few days of school to help students feel more comfortable and secure in the school setting.  Beginning Tuesday, September 4^th (day after the Labor Day Holiday),  we will need to minimize the flow of traffic within the school and maintain school security by asking that you drop children off at the school doors and allow the children to go to the cafeteria, gym, and/or classroom with school staff supervision. 

Parents that would like to visit their child’s classroom may only do so after they have entered the office, received a visitor’s badge, and signed in.  While we understand that parents enjoy visiting their child’s classroom, it is also important that children learn the school routine so we ask that classroom visits take place after the first four weeks of school.  As a courtesy, parents should schedule their classroom visits through the classroom teacher.

As we begin this new school year, I just wanted to let you know that we will continue the policy we started several years ago regarding conduct grades and extra-curricular privileges.  We will continue to require all students to maintain at least a “B-” average in conduct in order to participate in special activities (i.e. classroom parties, track and field, field day, field trips, special programs on campus, etc.).  We will review the three weeks’ conduct grades prior to the special activity to determine eligibility.  Based on the results from the last several years, we have found that this provides an incentive for students to strive for excellence in behavior.

Students maintaining an “A” average in conduct for each nine-week grading period, will be eligible to shop in our Tiger Store.  All students (1^st – 5^th grade) who maintain an “A” in conduct for the year and do not have any office referrals, will be invited to participate in our end of the year Splash Day Celebration.  The yearly “A” conduct will be based on an “A” earned on the report card for each 9-week grading period.  Kindergarten students will be invited to participate in Splash Day if they have maintained an “A” in conduct each week of school as reported in the weekly Tuesday folder (this begins with the 2^nd nine-week period through the end of the school year).  The first 9-weeks in Kindergarten will not impact our students’ participation in Splash Day since our Kindergarten students are still learning school expectations.  Pre-Kindergarten students will not be eligible to participate in Splash Day.

As in the past, our students will bring home a Tuesday folder.  This folder will include their weekly conduct grade, papers that they have worked on that can remain at home, and papers that should be signed and returned to school.  We ask that parents look at the folder every Tuesday, review the conduct grade and papers with their child, sign the conduct folder, and return the folder to school the next school day.  If the student is sent to the office for a major infraction during the week, this will result in an “F” for the weekly conduct grade.  With most of these visits, a parent will be contacted by one of the principals.  It is our hope that with diligence on the part of the school and the parents, the Tuesday folder will provide weekly communication between the home and the school. 

Three years ago we began implementing a lunch schedule so that parents could visit their child at lunch one day a week.  Unfortunately, due to the size of our cafeteria, we are unable to allow any other visits.  The lunch schedule is below.  It is based on your child’s last name.  If your child’s last name begins with the letter A, B, or C, you will be able to eat lunch with your child on Monday.  If your child’s last name begins with the letter D, E, F, or G, you will be able to eat lunch with your child on Tuesday.  If your child’s last name begins with the letter H, I, J, K, L, or M, you will be able to eat lunch with your child on Wednesday.  If your child’s last name begins with the letter N, O, P, Q, or R, you will be able to eat lunch with your child on Thursday.  If your child’s last name begins with S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, or Z, you will be able to each lunch with your child on Friday.  The table below shows the schedule in a simplified format. 

Please remember that this schedule is based on your child’s last name, not the parent’s last name.  We will continue to have tables on the stage of the cafeteria, and we ask that all parents/visitors seat themselves in this area. 

We have not made any changes to dismissal patterns this year.  Our 1^st, 3^rd, and 5^th grade students will still dismiss from the Avenue A side of the building.  Our 2^nd and 4^th grade students will dismiss in the bus drop-off area (Perez side), and our Pre-K and Kindergarten students will dismiss near the cafeteria on the Perez side.  As a reminder, please understand that we are unable to differentiate between students that walk home alone and parents that walk-up to meet their child/children.  If parents intend to meet their child at dismissal, it is the parents’ responsibility to be at the dismissal spot on time to meet the child.  Please understand that when you indicate that your child is a walker, the expectation is that these children are independent enough to walk home on their own.  It is fine if you choose to walk up to the walker dismissal area to meet them, but should a parent not be there on time, the students will be expected to walk home independently.  For safety reasons, we do not allow Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten students to walk home alone. We will be passing out the car-rider tags again this year so that you can indicate the name of your child, the teacher, and the grade level.  We ask that parents please utilize these tags every day since it makes the dismissal traffic flow much more quickly.

Estimados padres,

¡Bienvenidos a este el año escolar 2012-2013!  ¡Estamos muy contentos acerca del año que viene!  Solo quiero enfatizar con usted en algunos asuntos para cuidar nuestra escuela y su funcionamiento  tranquilo y con seguridad.  Primero, usted es bienvenido a caminar  a su niño/niños para ayudarlos durante los días primeros de la escuela a sentirse más cómodos y seguros.  Comenzando el martes 4 de septiembre (un día después del día de fiesta del día de trabajo),  necesitaremos reducir al mínimo el flujo de personas dentro de la escuela y mantener la seguridad de la escuela pidiéndole que entregue a sus estudiantes a las puertas de la escuela  y permitiendo  que los niños(as) vayan a la cafetería, al gimnasio, y/o a la sala de clase con la supervisión del personal de la escuela. 

Los padres que quisieran visitar el salón de clase de su niño(a) pueden hacer solamente después  después de que se han registrado en la oficina, firmado y recibido un pase de un visitante.  Por un lado, nosotros  entendemos que los padres gustan de visitar el salón de clase de su niño, es también importante que los niños aprendan la rutina de la escuela así que pedimos que estas visitas ocurran después de las primeras cuatro semanas de la escuela.  Como cortesía, los padres deben programar sus visitas de la sala de clase a través del maestro de su niño(a).

Como comienza este nuevo año escolar, les dejo saber que continuaremos la política que comenzamos hace varios años que observa los grados de la conducta y privilegios extra-curricular.  Continuaremos requiriendo a todos los estudiantes mantener por lo menos un promedio del “b” en conducta para participar en actividades especiales (es decir. partidos de la sala de clase, pista y campo, día del campo, disparos al campo, programas especiales sobre campus, etc.).  Revisaremos las calificaciones de la conducta de las tres semanas los' antes de la actividad especial para determinar elegibilidad.  De acuerdo con los resultados de los últimos años, hemos encontrado que esto proporciona un incentivo para los estudiantes para esforzarse para la excelencia en comportamiento.

Los estudiantes que mantengan un promedio de “A” en la conducta para cada período de calificaciones de nueve semanas, serán elegibles hacer compras en nuestro almacén del tigre.  Todos los estudiantes (1^st – 5^th grado) que mantiene una “A” en la conducta para año y no tenga ninguna remisiones de la oficina, será invitado para participar en nuestro final de la celebración del día del chapoteo del año.  La conducta anual de “A” será basada en una “A” ganada en la tarjeta de calificaciones para cada período que de 9 semanas.  Se invitará a los estudiantes del kinder que participen en día del chapoteo si han mantenido una “A” adentro conducen cada uno semana de la escuela según lo divulgado en el fólder semanal de cada martes (esto comienza con los 2^nd período de nueve semanas a través del final del año escolar).  Las primeras 9 semanas en kinder no afectarán participación a nuestros estudiantes ' en día del chapoteo puesto que ellos(as) de la infancia todavía están aprendiendo expectativas de la escuela.  Los estudiantes del Pre-Kinder de la infancia no serán elegibles participar en día del chapoteo.

Como en el pasado, nuestros estudiantes llevaran a casa el fólder de los martes.  Este fólder incluirá su grado semanal de la conducta, los trabajos que podrán permanecer en casa así como los papeles que se deben firmar y volver a la escuela.  Pedimos que los padres revisen el fólder cada martes, repasan  el grado de la conducta y los papeles con su niño(a), firmen la conducta, y devuelvan este fólder el día próximo de la escuela.  Si estudiante es enviado a la oficina por una infracción importante durante la semana, ésta dará lugar a una “F” para el grado semanal de la conducta.  Con la mayoría de estas visitas, uno de los principales entrará en contacto con a un padre.  Es nuestra esperanza que diligencia de parte de la escuela y de los padres, el fólder de los martes proveerá de la comunicación semanal entre el hogar y la escuela. 

Hace tres años comenzamos a poner en practica un horario del almuerzo de modo que los padres pudieran visitar a su niño(a) en el almuerzo un día a la semana.  Desafortunadamente, debido al tamaño de nuestra cafetería, no podemos permitir cualquier otra visita.  El horario del almuerzo está abajo.  Se basa en el apellido de su niño(a).  Si el apellido  de su niño(a) comienza con la letra A, B, o C, usted podrá comer el almuerzo con su niño el lunes.  Si comienza con la letra D, E, F, o G, usted podrá comer el almuerzo con su niño el martes.  Si comienza con la letra H, I, J, K, L, o M, usted podrá comer el almuerzo con su niño el miércoles.  Si comienza con la letra N, O, P, Q, o R, usted podrá comer el almuerzo con su niño el jueves.  Y si el apellido de su niño(a) comienza con S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, o Z, usted podrá a cada almuerzo con su niño el viernes.  La tabla abajo demuestra el horario en un formato simplificado. 

Recuerde por favor que este horario está basado en el nombre pasado de su niño(a), no el nombre pasado del padre.  Continuaremos teniendo tablas en la entrada de la cafetería, y pediremos que todos los padres/visitantes se asientan en esta área. 

No hemos hecho ningún cambio a los patrones de entrega de estudiantes al fin del día este año.  Nuestro 1^st, 3^rd, y 5^th los estudiantes del grado inmóvil saldrán del lado de la avenida A del edificio.  Nuestros 2^nd y 4^th los estudiantes del grado saldrán en el área de la bajada del autobús (lado de Pérez), y nuestro Pre-K y los estudiantes del jardín de la infancia saldrán cerca de la cafetería en el lado de Perez.  Como recordatorio, entienda por favor que no podemos distinguir entre los estudiantes que caminan a casa solos y los padres que vienen a recogerlos en la esquina.  Si los padres desean recoger a los estudiantes en la esquina, es responsabilidad de ellos de esta a tiempo y puntualmente esperando a sus niños(as).  Entienda por favor que cuando usted indica que su niño es un caminador, la expectativa es que estos niños(as) son bastante independientes como para caminar solos a casa.  Es mucho mejor si usted elige  caminar hasta el área del entrega de los caminadores, pero usted debe de estar allí a tiempo si no se espera que los estudiantes a casa solos.  Por razones de seguridad, no permitimos que el Pre-kinder y los estudiantes del kinder caminen a casa solos. Este año también repartiremos las etiquetas de los estudiantes que se recogen en carro de modo que usted pueda indicar el nombre de su niño, del profesor, y del nivel del grado.  Esto ha permitido realizar la entrega de los estudiantes mucho más rápidamente.  Siéntase por favor con confianza de llamar la oficina de la escuela en (713) 740-0720 si usted tiene algunas preguntas o preocupaciones.  ¡Gracias tanto por toda su ayuda y ayuda!  ¡El año escolar 2012-2013 va a ser FABULOSO!
