De Zavala Middle School fifth-grader Stephany Viagomez-Tamayo receives congratulations from Mary Alberts, CEO of the Texas Center for the Missing.
Stephany Viagomez-Tamayo, a fifth-grader at De Zavala Middle School, won first place in the statewide "Bring Our Missing Children Home" art contest sponsored by the Texas Center For the Missing.
De Zavala accounted for three of the top four statewide entries in the contest. Fifth-grader Diego Mondragon took second in the contest while another fifth-grader, Isabela Juarez, placed fourth.
The three were honored with a reception on Wednesday in the school library.
Viagomez-Tamayo's artwork was entered in national competition held earlier this month. Her piece will be used by the Texas Center for the Missing in various promotional materials.
Viagomez-Tamayo will donate her original for permanent display at the school.
