A group of future Memorial Mavericks -- students from Teague Elementary -- will be on campus Oct. 7 to participate in a read-along, part of a "Read For the Record Day," a national program with a boal of getting two million young readers to read the same book on the same day.
The book selection this year is "The Snowy Day," by Jack Ezra Keats. the event is being promoted by Jump Start For Reading.
Jump Start is a program to help children in low-income families prepare to start school.
Last year's "Read for the Record" event raised almost $2 million to help fund the organization's early education program in low-income communities.
