The Thompson Symphonic and Concert Bands competed in the Early Music Contest at the Texas Renaissance Festival on Nov. 2 in Plantersville -- and placed second and third, respectively, The Thompson bands are directed by Deborah Hirsch and by Areef Bhuya, a student teacher from the University of Houston.
