12/16/10 > FREEMAN PRIZE PARADE: Grants To Benefit Two Programs

Freeman landed two mini-grants totaling nearly $10,000, one benefiting an extended-day program and the other to fund a kinesthetic learning initiative. Peer facilitators Peggy Jordan and Maria Rivera secured the Dexter Joyner mini-grant of $4,992 to fund the FOX Academy, an extended-day program that will incorporate fine arts with physical activities and technology. Teacher Billie Ellis landed a grant of $4,950 for the "Learning Carpet," a 100-square grid used to enhance students' understanding of mathematics and language through kinesthetic learning. The grant is sponsored by KBR.

Santa Claus made his way to Freeman on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. He assured all the Freeman Foxes that he continues to check his list every night to make sure that plans are in place for all good little girls and good little boys to get their Christmas wish. Students invited their mothers to campus for "Muffins With Mom," which was held every day last week and turned out to be a marvelous success. The event gave teachers and staff a chance to visit with parents and provided the school with an opportunity to let parents know they are always welcome on campus. Event photos follow.

Freeman dads were invited to share donuts and chocolate milk with their children last week during the annual Donuts With Dads event. Over 120 parents visited with the students and staff. Freeman moms are taking their turn at the donut box this week. Event photos follow.
