Golden Acres held a ceremony on Tuesday to honor the late Charles Sullivan and dedicate a Pasadena ISD Education Foundation mini-grant for physical fitness named his honor. On hand were Sullivan's widow, Board of Trustees member Nelda Sullivan, and two of his sons, David and Johnnie. (Below) Ceremony participants include Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kirk Lewis, Golden Acres Princpal Gloria Chomenko, David Sullivan, Nelda Sullivan, Johnnie Sullivan, P.E. teacher Mary (Mrs. Johnnie) Sullivan, Assistant Principal Lisa Haws and Associate Superintendent for Campus Development Troy McCarley.

12/14/10 > GOLDEN ACRES ES PHOTOS: Greensheet Used As Workshop Tool

Anne Doventry from The Greensheet conducted a writing workshop for Golden Acres fourth-graders recently. With copies of The Greensheet to guide them, students wrote stories for possible publication. Doventry plans to select the top 30 stories and publish them in the Jan. 6 edition. (Below) Fourth-grader Carolina Reyes works on her composition. 12/08/10 > GOLDEN ACRES PRIZE PARADE: Charles Sullivan Grant to Bolster Physical Fitness

Golden Acres faculty members Lorena Carrasco and Mary Sullivan received a mini-grant award of $1,500 for their proposal to fund an Academic Strides Through Physical Activity (ASTPA) program. The grant is named after Charles Sullivan, the late husband of Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees member Nelda Sullivan, who was on hand to present the check. Mary Sullivan is the daughter-in-law of Nelda Sullivan.

Adult ESL classes are being offered at Golden Acres. The classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Call Lorena Carrasco at 713-740-0600 for additional information.

Janice Hale-Harris and Stanley Ganderson, guest speakers from Waste Management, visited with Golden Acres students last week to explain the importance of recycling, reducing and reusing. GT students plan to start a school-wide recycling project to help conserve our resources. Event photo follows.
