On Saturday, the Melillo Middle School Chess Club hosted its second mini-Chess Exhibition of the year. Melillo's Chess Club challenged 29 fifth and sixth grade students for the top title of tournament champion. Students will have another opportunity to compete in a District Championship game on Saturday, May 26.
The results from Saturday's tournament are as follows:
First Place: Nathan Chapa, Milstead. Nathan won all four games, earning a perfect score of 4.0.
Second Place: Alex Mendez, with 3.5 points.
Third Place (Tie): Shiv Kumar, Nelson Calderon and Ruben Hermosa from De Zavala, Beth Early and Kevin Ly from Melillo and Andrew Johnson from Milstead. Each had 3 points.
