  North Shore right-hander Ricardo Salinas limited Dobie to one hit and helped his own cause with a key second-inning double as the District 21-5A champions used a 2-1 victory Friday night to even their playoff series with the Longhorns.
  The opening-round series will be decided on Saturday when the two teams return to the North Shore diamond for a noon showdown. Dobie, the fourth-place team in District 22-5A, won the first game of the best-of-three series, 6-5, on Thursday night.
  Memorial High forced a deciding game in its series with Baytown Sterling by clubbing the Rangers 13-4 Friday night in Baytown. Jordan Wyatt and Brady Toler hit home runs for the Mavericks.
  The two teams will square off for a final time Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Clear Brook High School.
  Sam Rayburn was eliminated from the playoffs in an 11-1 loss to La Porte at Maguire Field. La Porte won the series opener on Thursday night 6-4.
  In softball action Friday night, Dobie was ousted by Brazoswood 2-1 in area-round play. The Lady Longhorns, the champions of 22-5A, finished the season with a 20-11 record after losing back-to-back games to the Lady Bucs.
  North Shore greeted the Longhorns to single runs in the second and third innings. Salinas doubled in the second and scored on a single by Mike Gutierrez. Christian Montes made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the third.
  Dobie got a run back in the sixth when Jesus Rendon reached on an infield error, Jose Sanchez singled and Zach Long delivered a fielder's choice grounder that brought in Rendon. The hit by Sanchez was the only one of the game off Salinas.
  Longhorns pitchers Ryan McCormack and Michael Munoz held the Mustangs to just four hits.

A scary moment in the fourth inning: Dobie catcher Wade Buisson is immediately surrounded by concerned teammates and umpires after being struck in the throat by a foul tip. Buisson stayed in the game.
