Two Memorial High students -- junior Stephen Alcala and senior Jessica Vega -- received special awards at the Scholastic Art and Writing Reception this week. Alcala earned the Harris County Department of Education Trustees' Exemplary Award at the reception. Vega received the HCDE Superintendent's Award. The work of these students was chosen out of 1,200 entries from the Greater Houston area. Both students also received monetary awards for their work.
