On May 19, the Stuchbery fourth grade will compete against other elementary school teams in the district's "Name That Book Competition". Students were required to read books from a list of 20 to be eligible to compete. During the competition, teams will be given a quote from one of those books and they will be required to provide the book's name. The teams with the most points will advance to the next round. On February 27, SPC Andrew K. Waller made a surprise visit to Stuchbery. The students in Mrs. Bryan's fourth grade class have been writing to SPC Waller's 170th Infantry Division, 1-84 Field Artillery unit in Afghanistan this year.  Students were excited to see the soldier that had been receiving their letters and enjoyed hearing some stories. Recently, Stuchbery students created book floats to reflect what their book was about. From Star Wars to Junie B. Jones, all types of reading genres were explored in a creative new way.  Students then displayed their projects in the school library. Event photos follow.

On Wednesday, students in Ms. Maxwell's pre-kindergarten classes celebrated the 100th day of school by wearing festive t-shirts and parading down the school's halls. Event photos follow.

On Monday, students at Stuchbery celebrated the first day of Chinese New Year in a festive parade down the halls. Event photos follow.

Recently, fourth grade students Abagail Lopez and Elexus Romero (pictured below), were chosen to be the new "office runners" for the second half of the year. They will deliver items parents bring into school such as lunch kits, folders and backpacks to their respective classrooms. The Stuchbery office staff would like to thank the girls for all their hard work. 

On Thursday, Stuchbery students showed there Texans pride by dressing in their best red, white and blue Houston Texans apparel. Event photo follows. 

Stuchbery Elementary held the school spelling bee on January 10, 2012. There were 23 third and fourth grade participants. This year's winner was Thao Lam. Runner-up was Nicholas Salinas. Thao will represent Stuchbery at the Elementary District Spelling Bee on February 7^th at Sam Rayburn High School Auditorium. Event photo follows.

Bullying Program - Presented during PE times.

Santa came early for SUCCESS students at Stuchbery Elementary. Mr. Jim Hinton, uncle of Stuchbery SUCCESS teacher, Johanna Guettler, presented her and her students with a classroom set of iPads. These devices will be a great learning tool for them to reach academic success! Event photos follow.

Second grade students in Mrs. Shirley Young's class recently saw science in motion with a class experiment using toy cars. The students measured the length of each traveling car and discussed the force that allowed the car to move down the ramp. The lesson focused on the basics of force and motion. Event photo follows. 

Third and fourth grade students were recently selected by their teachers to be Santa's "Reader Elves". Students visited Pre-K through second grade classes and read different holiday books. Event photos follow.

Stuchbery faculty and families collected dog and cat food this past week to raise money for the Brazoria County Humane Society. Over 900 pound of dog and cat food will be donated to the cause. Along with the food donation, students also collected medical supplies, toys and bedding for animals. Event photo follows.

Recently, the students at Stuchbery were encouraged to bring any book from home to donate to needy school-aged children. Students who particpated received their name on a bee and it was posted on the Bee a Giver tree in recognition of that child's donation. These books were donated to a local Houston-area school. Recently, Gifted and Talented teacher, Mrs. Kris Wallis, shared the story How Full is Your Bucket, with her first grade students. As their "bucket filler" activity, students chose to set a beautiful table for the child nutrition workers at Stuchbery to show their appreciation for all their hard work. Event photos follow.

Recently, students and staff at Stuchbery Elementary celebrated Thanksgiving with a special school-wide feast. Students lined the halls in true pilgrim fashion to give thanks and spend time with teachers and friends. Event photos follow.

Recently, students at Stuchbery Elementary held a special Grandparents Lunch for all Grandparents to attend with their grandchildren. Principal Jackie Salisbury and counselor Tina Jo Flotten served the honored guests. Event photos follow.

Stuchbery recently hosted the annual Family Math Night in an effort to encourage parent involvement in homework. The Stuchbery family would like to give an extra special thank you to PTO president, Debbi Doss and her two sons, Marcus and Nathan, (pictured below) for going out in the rain to get the pizza for the evening. Students at Stuchbery were treated to an afternoon of fun with a special celebration in honor of Veterans Day. The school hosted guest speakers who were war veterans. Following the ceremony, the school held a luncheon for the honored guests and students had the opportunity to take photos with the veterans. Event photos follow.

  Pre-K teacher, Mrs. Liavette Peralta and her intern, Mrs. Hermelinda Correa recently completed a unit about spiders and wanted students to see how hard spiders have to work to make their web.  
  Students used white yarn to demonstrate how to make a human web and allowed each student to hold on to a piece and pass it to whoever they wanted in the circle until everyone was holding on to a piece of the yarn.  Students were able to see different shapes and sizes within the web.

Students at Stuchbery recently kicked off Red Ribbon Week with a high energy program from Bill Lowery, pictured below, and the Commando USA team. Stuchbery Elementary recently encouraged students to collect box tops and turn them in to help earn money for the school. Third-grader David Gomez, pictured below, collected 500 box tops, the most any student has turned in at one time in the past three years!

On Tuesday, Oct. 25 the public is invited to join Stuchbery staff and students for the PTO Costume Parade and Book Fair at 6 p.m. in the school's cafeteria. Stuchbery will holding free parenting classes on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 5-6 p.m. The "Love and Logic" class will be presented by a licensed professional therapist with over 15 years of experience. The Stuchbery family recently celebrated a special birthday of their very own principal, Mrs. Jackie Salisbury. The students and staff surprised Salisbury with flowers, balloons and cards. Event photo follows.

  Sensei Joseph Cantu and his stepdaughter, Alyx Bridwell recently visited Stuchbery students to raise awareness of bullying in schools. Cantu and Bridwell also reenacted different scenarios for students to see how to deal with bullies.
  Cantu, a former World Champion Martial Artist and U.S. Air Force Veteran, holds black belts in multiple styles of martial arts.  He also tours nearby school districts as a motivational speaker and author. In 2001, he founded the non-profit organization Sexual Crime Outreach for Texas teens, for which he was recognized by the U.S. Congress.
 Currently presiding as the President of Cantu Martial Arts & Fitness, LLC, he believes that by raising awareness, bullying in schools can be reduced.
  "I believe that with zero tolerance for fighting in schools and more education, a safer learning environment can be the norm," Cantu said.

Juliana Moreno & Jaelyn Chapmen, pictured below, have been chosen to be the "Stuchbery Runners" for the 2011-2012 school year. Both girls are in Ms. Lauren Nalepa's fourth grade class. They will help the office deliver lunches, backpacks, homework and other items brought in by parents to the classrooms twice a day. 

Parent nutrition classes will be offered to all parents of Stuchbery students from the AgriLife Extension of Texas A&M University System. Classes will run for six consecutive Wednesdays starting Sept. 21, from 1-2 p.m. For more information call 713-740-0752.
