SHAW PRIZE PARADE: Hard Work Adds Up to Math Mini-Grant
Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Shaw teachers Claudia Valadez, Sherry Nilles, Stacy Williams and Amanda Hughes show off their mini-grant check.

  PASADENA ISD EDUCATION FOUNDATION MINI-GRANT
  Applicants: Stacy Williams, Kelly Costley
  Mini-Grant Name: Shawsome Mathematics
Abstract: Shawsome Mathematics is an instructional framework designed for creating an environment that facilitates learning through the use of work stations and small group instruction in the math classroom. Research indicates the most effective process for teaching mathematics to begin with concrete objects, such as manipulatives, to provide students with mental images of abstract concepts. The Shawsome Mathematics framework will provide students with hands-on, differentiated learning experiences to assist in closing the achievement gap by implementing work stations and small-group instruction. Shaw students will show continued growth on STAAR assessments and an increased percentage of students who are able to meet the College and Career Readiness Standards.

Amount: $5,000
Sponsor: Texas Bay Area Credit Union
