THOMPSON IS PHOTO: Pentathlon Teams Among Best in State
Friday, May 4th, 2012

Both the eighth- and seventh-grade Academic Pentathlon teams at Thompson made the Top 30 in state rankings over the course of the competition season.

The eighth-grade team finished 27th in the state and the seventh-grade team took the 29th spot.
The pentathlon is made up of five events - math, science, social studies, essay, and super quiz. This year's theme was "The Imperial Age," and students read the book "The Twenty-One Balloons," by William Pene du Bois.

At the district competition in March, Thompson earned 18 bronze medals, 10 silver medals and seven gold medals.
Nathan Taylor received a trophy for placing first overall in his division for seventh grade. Ahmad Abusaif received a trophy for placing second overall in his division for eighth grade. The eighth-grade team won first overall in super quiz. The seventh-grade team won second place in the district.

After a week of STAAR testing, the team competed at regionals.

Thompson earned seven bronze medals, seven silver medals and one gold medal. Sara Sultan won second overall in her division for seventh-graders. Abusaif once again won second overall in his division for eighth grade. The eighth-grade team won third overall in super quiz.
