PHS senior earns Eagle Scout honors

Pasadena High School senior Marcus Puckett has received one of the Boy Scouts highest honors.

Puckett, who has been a scout since eight-years-old, received his Eagle Scout ranking recently. He is a member of Troop 468 in Pearland and is an honor student at Pasadena High.

In order to complete his Eagle Scout honors, Puckett had to undertake a special project. For his Eagle Project, Puckett elected to paint the classrooms, offices, and restrooms of Pasadena High School, working with maintenance engineer Larry Mason.

In Puckett's scouting career, he attended many campouts including, a 70 mile trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, the National Jamboree in Virginia and the World Jamboree in England.

Puckett is ranked 17th in his senior class.  He was a member of the football and swimming/diving team.  Currently, he is a member of Speech and Debate, the National Honor Society, the Mu Alpha Theta Math Club and plays the bass guitar in the school Jazz Band.

In summer 2008, he attended and graduated from Boys' State.  This year, he has been awarded the American Legion Award, Vanguard Community Service Award and Optimist of the Month Award.  His greatest academic honor was being named a National Hispanic Recognized Scholar.

After graduation in early June, Puckett is planning on studying physics at the University of New Mexico where he was awarded a full scholarship.
