The Sam Rayburn High School Army JROTC Color Guard finally made it to the "big leagues." as the Houston Astros honored the Texan Battalion Color Guard invited them to present the colors for the National Anthem at Minute Maid Park when the Houston Astros hosted the Philadelphia Phillies.
Representing Sam Rayburn were seniors Juan Tamez and identical twins Rosa and Cynthia Frantz and junior April Reyna. The Color Guard is trained by JROTC instructors Sgt. First Class James Schneider and First Sgt. Luis Gonzalez.
The Sam Rayburn Army JROTC is the newest and largest of three JROTCs in the Pasadena school district. The Texan Battalion was officially activated in August 2005 and has grown from 175 cadets to now over 300.
