Recently, two district art students took home cash prizes from the Culture Shapers Drawing and Sculpture contests. The annual Culture Shapers Visual Arts contest enables student artists to compete for nearly $70,000 in cash prizes in drawing, painting, electronic media, mixed media, photography and sculpture.
Memorial sophomore Amy Truong placed fifth out of the 264 entries from the greater-Houston area, bringing home $500 with her portrait drawing titled, The Future?
From 185 entries in the sculpture category, Rayburn senior Ruben Montemayor claimed fourth place earning him a $1,000 check for his piece entitled Totemayor, a sculptural self-portrait in the form of a totem.
