Pasadena High's National Art Honor Society and Art Club hosted a Sidewalk Chalk Art Festival at the school last Saturday.
The festival was both a fundraising activity for the clubs and a way to promote art in the community. Students from local intermediate, middle and elementary schools were invited to participate in the activities.
The students modeled the event after the Via Colori Street Art Festival which takes place in downtown Houston each fall. Several of the student artists have participated in the downtown event.
Jacky Cardenas, an NAHS member and Via Colori alumni, showcased her experience by creating a lovely portrait of Simba and his father from the "Lion King."
The event's theme was "When I Grow Up." Using that theme, students created an original work expressing how one grows through experiences with art.
(Below) Students artists hit the pavement for the Sidewalk Chalk Festival; (middle left) senior Martha Salinas; (middle right) junior Raul Facundo; (bottom left) junior Jacky Cardenas and her "Lion King" drawing; (bottom right) sophomore Dalia Murillo.
