Students, staff and parents helped make Math Night at Bailey a big success. Students increased their math skills while playing bingo, playing musical chairs, counting and competing for books with their math achievements. BAILEY ES PRIZE PARADE: Garden Stems From Grant

A committee of Bailey teachers, led by Benjamin Jimenez and Robert T. Billman, landed a mini-grant that will fund a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Garden at Bailey and provide funds for similar projects at South Shaver and McMasters elementary schools. The self-sustained gardens will promote healthy lifestyles and demonstrate production concepts that incorporate STEM learning. The Barmore Insurance Agency Mini-Grant is for $5,000.

BAILEY ES: Students Essays Kick In With Big Rewards

Fourth-graders Elektra Avila and Jason Guzman wrote compositions on self-respect and self-dicipline that earned them one-year scholarships to the Kuk Sool Pasadena martial arts school. The students will be able to attend the school at no cost for one year.

Heavy rain failed to spoil the fun at the Bailey Fall Festival last Saturday (Nov. 13). With the event moved indoors, students from district high schools arrived early to help set up and assist with food service, face-painting booths and braid-making booths. Kindergartners from Bailey's Dual Language Program opened the event with songs in both English and Spanish. Magician Jason Tolentino provided entertainment. Event photo follows.

BAILEY ES PHOTOS: Second-Grader Wins First at Taekwondo Event

Maria Prado, a second-grader at Bailey, took first place in her age division of blue belts at the 2010 National Taekwondo Championships held in July in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Prado advanced by winning her regional qualifier.

Her sister, Mariana Prado, took third place nationally in her age division of black belts. Mariana is a seventh-grader at Bondy Intermediate. (Below) Maria (left) and Mariana Prado.
