Color Guard

Color Guard also performs at all of the Dobie football games along with the band. We are the ones with the flags. If you would like to join the Color Guard, please come by the band hall to room 515.

How to join the J. Frank Dobie Color Guard: Membership in the Color Guard is by audition only. Auditions are held each May, and spots are finalized in August. Prior to auditions, a workshop will be held that will cover the basic skills necessary to successfully complete the audition process. Students interested in joining the Color Guard should contact a member of the band staff for details. A color guard class will be held each spring semester. This class is designed to prepare prospective members for the May auditions. Students who wish to join the color guard must enroll in the fall color guard class.

More About Color Guard: The Color Guard Division is the foundation of WGI Sport of the Arts. Founded in 1978, the Color Guard division became a new art form that captured the interest of countless young people across the country. The growth of this division has been unparalleled in the history of Pageantry.

Combining theater, dance, and the joy of performance, with the cornerstone of equipment spinning and flying through the air, this new entity soon filled a large void in our schools as cutbacks in music and the arts left many students unfulfilled. Supportive parents aided in the funding of this growing beautiful activity. Students thrived and grew from the experience, and WGI continues today to lead the growth and fulfill the potential of this unique "art form".
