
DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) is a national association for Marketing Education students. It is a program for students interested in preparing for entrepreneurial, marketing, or management careers. DECA's goal is to work with businesses within the community to provide students with a basic understanding of business, leadership skills, and social development. To accomplish this, DECA utilizes on the job training experience, field trips, guest speakers, and competitive events in specific occupational areas. DECA students are enrolled in Marketing Co-op classes. Students must be at least 16 years old and a junior or senior. Marketing students are released from school early and receive credit for their employment within the community. | 
| | The Dobie High School DECA students competed at the State DECA Conference in Corpus Christi last weekend. Students competed in certain occupational areas related to their job training. Students are judged on their knowledge of marketing, economics, and management skills as well as their social and selling skills. Business owners, managers, and other community leaders were involved with the judging at the conference. Five students were named as winners in their events. Sandra Gonzalez – Business Services Marketing (Plus 4 Credit Union) Yvonne Ramirez – DECA Scholarship (Fuddruckers) Celeste Carmona – Restaurant & Food Service Management (Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen) Radherson Rijo – Automotive Services Marketing (Texas Powersports) Berenice Martinez – Food Marketing (Randalls) The next level of competition is the International Career Development Conference to be held in Salt Lake City, Utah in April. Students will be competing against the top students in the nation as well as several other countries. |
