Class Information

Debate is open to any sophomore, junior, or senior who would like to attend speech and debate tournaments to compete in events such as prose, poetry, extemporaneous speaking, student congress, oratory, impromptu speaking, and Lincoln Douglas Debate. The class requires both time in class and outside of class in order to be successful at tournaments. This year so far the debate team has done well bringing home many throphies and awards. Tournaments take place on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. The debate team competes in the National Forensic League, Texas Forensic Association , and National Catholic Forensics League.
Maurice Robinson, who was the only student from out district to attend UIL State faired very well at the state level.  He placed fourth in his section only one rank from breaking to finals.  However, Ms. Small informed me he was still the highest ranked student from our entire region at the state level.  At our National Tournament in Baltimore, Maryland one of the five attendees, Brianna Herman, made it to the top fifty (50) in the NATION! There were over 300 students in her category, Original Oratory.  With over 2,600 students in attendance from across the nation this was the largest attendance for the tournament to date.

Reese Selman, will be attending the final national tournament of the year the day after graduation.  He, too, is the only national qualifier in out district.
