 WHAT ARE SES SERVICES?

What are Supplemental Educational Services (SES)?  These are free tutoring opportunities for students outside of the regular school day in Reading, Math or Science.  These may take place before school, after school, or on weekends.  Tutoring may be provided in person or online.  Any Title 1 campus in Stages 2-5 of School Improvement must offer Supplemental Educational Services (SES) to all students from low-income families.

Who is eligible to request these services?  Low-income students who are identified as students who are eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch and are enrolled at a campus in Stage 2 or higher of School Improvement or in the Texas Title I Priority Schools Grant are eligible to receive SES services. If you feel your child does not qualify for SES, but is still need of extra academic support, click the private tuturing link on the left side of this webpage to find out more information on outside resources regarding fee-for-service tutoring.

Which schools are offering SES in the 2012-2013 school year?

Pomeroy ElementaryMiller Intermediate

Who pays for the tutoring services?  All costs for SES are paid for by the district.  If the number of students requesting SES exceeds the amount of money a campus has available for SES, the district and/or campus must give priority to the lowest-achieving students from low-income families and should establish a fair and equitable criteria for identifying these students.

Which provider may a parent choose? Parents are able to choose any provider that is offering services in their area that has contracted to work with our students.  Please keep in mind that providers may offer tutoring in one-on-one or group settings, as well as online or distance learning.

How do I sign my child up for these free services? The Pasadena Independent School District notifies parents of the availability of SES services at the beginning of the school year through a parent notification packet that is mailed to the home address of record. Information regarding area SES providers and an enrollment form are enclosed with the parent notification letter. Select your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices of tutors from the list of SES Providers. Fill out the enrollment form completely making sure to include your choice of providers. Return the enrollment form to the main office of your child's school.

How do I choose a tutorial service?  If you think your child would benefit from tutoring in Reading, Math and/or Science, carefully review the information on the SES documents web page.  Detailed information on each provider is included, as well as contact information if you would like to ask them questions.  You may also contact the District SES Coordinator listed below.

Is transportation provided?  No.  Tutoring is available at various locations around the city, at your child’s campus, or online.  You will need to ensure that your child attends all sessions and you are responsible for transportation to tutoring sessions.

Enrollment Period:  Parents may enroll their students in the SES program during the open enrollment period. The enrollment period is from October 29, 2012-July 1, 2013.
