With full bellies and cheer, South Houston High School students cheered on 80 of their peers as they received checks for passing Advanced Placement exams last spring.

According to Pat Sermas, dir. of advanced academics, the honorees earned $100 for every AP exam they passed with a score of 3 or higher totaling $19,600 from funds provided by the Pasadena ISD School Board.

Board members, district administrators and South Houston faculty joined students at the barbecue luncheon where students received a check after being recognized for their accomplishments.

“This event is amazing because it shows they actually respect us,” said South Houston junior Julio Perez. “It just shows how much care they have for all their students.”
