Lewis Career and Technical High School
senior Michael Noschese nailed first place in Structural Welding at the Associated Builders and Contractors’ (ABC) annual National Craft Championship in Fort Lauderdale, FL, recently.

This is the first time in over 25 years that the competition has extended the event to high school students, making Noschese, 17, the youngest winner of the contest and among the first to represent high school students and Pasadena ISD.

“We are so proud to have talented students like Michael in our district,” Greg Mitchell, CTE partnership liaison said. “We would like to thank Salvador Mellado, from Performance Contractors, for fighting for the opportunity for these students to compete.”

The National Craft Championship invites extraordinary construction industry professionals across the country to compete in an intense two-day event, where young men and women compete in one of 15 competitions, representing 13 crafts.

Noschese and another student from Goose Creek ISD competed against 14 others, 13 of whom were industry professionals. Performance Contractors, Inc. sponsored both of the students to represent them at the competition.

Our industry is in great need of talented, career oriented individuals who will turn an opportunity into a success story,” said Salvador Mellado, who oversees logistics and training at Performance Contractors, Inc. “It is an honor for us, Performance Contractors Inc. to be represented by such talented young professionals.”

The goal of the event is to build excitement about the construction industry and promote life-long learning that contributes to the workforce.
