sideColumbia University freshman Alfredo Dominguez came home to Pasadena this week with the intention of getting a root canal. What he received on Tuesday may help relieve the pain.

Dominguez, who graduated from Pasadena High last June, was awarded a check for $700, the highest award presented to a 2015 Eagles senior at the school’s Advanced Placement Pep Rally.

Dominguez was one of 51 PHS students and former students who received awards for their success in AP courses during the 2014-15 school year. Similar rallies were held at other Pasadena ISD high schools last month.

Dominguez, who served as president of his senior class, paid a visit to the White House last summer with a group of scholarship recipients from across the country. Last spring he was awarded a Dell Scholarship and a Houston Golf Association Scholarship. He was also one of 10 Shining Stars honorees from PHS.

Pep rally speakers included Andrea Rodriguez, a 2014 PHS graduate who now attends Texas A&M, and Dr. DeeAnn Powell, who early next year will assume the duties of Pasadena ISD superintendent. Dr. Powell is a 1987 PHS graduate.

Principal Joe Saavedra provided a welcome and Assistant Principal Erika Nations gave closing remarks.
