FOOTBALL: Longhorns fall in opener to Morton Ranch

Morton Ranch spoiled opening night for the J. Frank Dobie Longhorns Thursday night as they defeated the Longhorns 36-17 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Despite the opening day loss, Dobie running back Kris Morris rushed for a pair of touchdowns – including an electrifying 55 yarder late in the third quarter.

After coming out of the halftime break down 23-10, the Longhorns suffered key injuries to both their starting quarterback, De’Aubrion Taulton and backup QB, Jacob Sullak.

Both teams leaned heavily on the running game, Morton Ranch rushed 44 times for 171 yards and Dobie had 196 yards on 39 attempts.
