Gardens students to step foot onto new bridge, Aug. 21

Gardens Elementary students living across Little Vince Bayou will no longer have to cross a worn out bridge that for the last several years has become a safety concern for parents.

Lindsey Lesniewski, the school’s principal, reached out to Pasadena ISD Director of Maintenance, Tom Douglas to address concerns about the bridge.

With due diligence, Douglas contacted the Harris County Flood Control District to assess the existing bridge and determined a replacement was needed. The new bridge was recently installed 150 feet closer to the school at no cost to the district.

“Every day multiple families cross this bridge and for them to be able to have safe passage to school, to cut out about a quarter mile of walking time in the morning, is going to make a huge difference for all of our families,” Lesniewski said.

In the coming weeks, Harris County Flood Control District will pour the new bridge’s concrete decking, ready for students at the start of the 2017-18 school year.
