Houston Methodist St. John Hospital has partnered with Pasadena ISD athletics to provide sports medicine services and financial support to the district’s 9,800 athletic students and 400 coaches and athletic trainers.
Houston Methodist St. John will provide orthopedic surgeons at football games to care for injured athletes; weekly injury clinics for football athletes to receive evaluations from medical professionals; and professional development opportunities for athletic trainers and coaches in the district. In addition, the hospital will annually award two $2,500 sports medicine scholarships to benefit students.
The Pasadena ISD board of trustees voted to approve the partnership at a board meeting last month.
“We searched for a hospital that would offer the best medical support for our school district and we knew Houston Methodist St. John was the perfect fit,” Chant said. “We are excited about the opportunities the partnership will bring to athletes, athletic trainers and coaches.”
Dan Newman, Houston Methodist St. John Hospital CEO, echoed this sentiment.
“Houston Methodist St. John Hospital is proud and excited to partner with Pasadena ISD,” Newman said. “We value athletics and its contribution to communities. We look forward to our relationship with the athletic trainers, coaches and athletes and welcome the opportunity to provide superior care and exceptional service to all we serve.”
Pasadena ISD chose to partner with Houston Methodist St. John after a long-term contract with Memorial Hermann Hospital ended in the spring. The three-year partnership agreement with Houston Methodist St. John will last until 2019.
“We have a long history of providing world-class sports medicine care in the Greater Houston athletic community,” said Jace Duke, manager of athletic training services at Houston Methodist St John. “This partnership opportunity allows us to expand our reach to serve the athletes and families in Pasadena.”
