Houston Texans Defensive Force J.J. Watt Surprises Students at Queens, South Houston Int.
Queens Intermediate campus volunteer Evan Sharp talks to Houston Texans defensive end JJ Watt.
Christmas came early for Pasadena ISD’s Queens and South Houston Intermediate Schools as J.J. Watt paid a surprise visit to student athletes.
A sea of uniforms, donated by the Justin J. Watt Foundation, filled both gyms as the Houston Texans defensive end spoke to students about the importance of having supportive friends.
“There’s all sorts of different obstacles in this world…They all impact us in different ways,” Watt said. “The most important [thing] is to surround yourself with people who can lift you up in tough times.”
Watt talked about a personal hardship that he is dealing with today.
“I just went through three [hardships] this year – two back surgeries, things that made me wonder, ‘Will I be able to function again? Will I be able to walk, bend over, touch my toes?’ I had positive people in my life that told me to keep my spirits up.”
Queens and South Houston are among several campuses in the district that have benefited from nearly $150,000 in sports equipment and uniforms for the Pasadena ISD intermediate school athletic programs over the past two years through the J.J. Watt Foundation.
Watt was excited to see the students proudly sporting their new uniforms.
“I like your jerseys,” Watt said. “You all look very, very good. It’s good to see that.”
