National Merit

Two groups of outstanding students were recognized at the February meeting of the Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees Tuesday night, the Texas Music Educators Association All-State band, orchestra and choir members and the class of 2016 commended and Hispanic National Merit Scholars.

In order to qualify for All-State band, orchestra and choir, these students had to compete at district, region and area levels against 65,000 other high school musicians in the state of Texas. Only the top one percent of these students will qualify for All-State.

The Pasadena ISD All-State members are; Adam Boswell, Dobie; Roberto Reyna and Terry Williams, Jr., Memorial; Nadjalie Santos and Jorge Alcocer, Rayburn and John Ramirez, South Houston.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. Those who become scholars are recognized by the College Board and National Merit Corporation for their outstanding performance on the PSAT.

The National Merit Scholars are; from Dobie Angelica DeJesus, commended scholar, Jennifer Penate and Roberto Zavaleta, national Hispanic scholar; from Memorial Alicia Crespin and Montserrat Tijerna, both commended and national Hispanic scholars and Jennifer Le, commended scholar; from Rayburn Josue Chirinos and Rolando Marquez, both commended and national Hispanic scholars and Braulio Garcia, commended scholar; and from South Houston Samantha Fuentes, national Hispanic scholar.
