Pam Wallace Jones, a 1965 graduate of South Houston High School and social media manager for the school’s alumni association, has been named the recipient of the 2017 David M. Ainsworth Alumni Spirit Award.

A product of Pasadena ISD, Jones will be honored during the 60th anniversary homecoming celebration on October 6 along with three new inductees who have been selected for the South Houston High Alumni Hall of Honor.

“It means the world to me to receive this award,” Jones said.

The Ainsworth Award is presented annually to a South Houston alumnus who has made significant contributions to the alumni program. The award is named after its first recipient, David Ainsworth, a member of the Class of ‘68 who helped build and strengthen social media connections for his class and other South Houston alumni until succumbing to cancer in 2013.

Jones has carried on the torch ever since and continues to boost the association’s social media presence – building connections among graduates and keeping them informed about alumni-related matters.

“She is proficient and the main source of information for the alumni [association] and our class,” Judy Williams, a long-time friend and classmate said.

A Southwest flight attendant for over 20 years, when she is not ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers, Jones spends time volunteering at her church and promotes class reunions through various communication channels, including the annual SHHS homecoming.

Her willingness to help others caught the attention of Herman Williams, a SHHS alum and PISD community supporter, who has known Jones since he was 13 years old.

“When she wants to help in any endeavor, get out of her way because she is going to do everything possible to see that it meets the needs of individuals,” Williams said. “She has been a steadfast supporter of all alumni events and I am proud to call her my friend.”

Judy Williams, who has known Jones since junior high school, reflected on times spent in journalism class together. “She couldn’t type worth a flip but, boy, how that has changed.”

Judy was excited to find out that Jones was chosen for the recognition.

“I believe she is a wonderful friend. She is dependable and truly deserving of this recognition. I am so proud of my partner in crime,” Judy said.
