PHS Wall of Honor inductees for 2016 are Martin Cominsky, Class of 1976; Bill Shock and Paula Shock, representing the late Bill Shock, Class of 1954; and Roy Mease, Class of 1957. Inductee James Hambrick, Class of 1973, could not attend.
His son told the story of how Bill Shock loved to tell people about his “Ph.D.”
“That’s right,” Shock would say. “My Pasadena High Diploma!”
His son, a towering former Marine who carries the same name – Bill Shock -- turned the anecdote into a kind of keynote on Tuesday as Pasadena High added the names of four esteemed alumni to the school’s Wall of Honor.
Shock, Class of 1954, was honored posthumously for his volunteer work for numerous organizations in Pasadena, Deer Park and Houston. Shock, who passed away in 2011, was represented by his son, Bill Shock, and his widow, Paula.
Martin Cominsky, Class of 1976, was honored for his commitment to public service programs and a career that has included positions as president of the Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston and director of the regional Anti-Defamation League.
He spoke glowingly of memories and friendships made during his high school years.
Roy Mease, Class of 1957, was lauded for his career as a lawyer, developer, former president of the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo and for an eight-year stint as a Pasadena city councilman.
He amplified the theme of school pride and described how fortunate he was to learn, at an early age, how to make sound decisions about his future.
Also added to the Wall of Honor was James Hambrick, Class of 1973, the CEO of Lubrizol Corp. Hambrick was out of the country and could not attend the ceremony.
Among those taking part in the ceremony was Pasadena ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Dee Ann Powell, a 1987 PHS graduate and the first district grad to rise to the ranks of superintendent.
Both Shock and Cominsky were previously honored by the Pasadena ISD as distinguished alumni, Shock in 2001 and Cominsky in 2003.
