Nearly 300 first-year teachers and teachers new to Pasadena ISD filled the dining hall at Pasadena Memorial last week for the district’s eighth annual New Teacher Welcome.

The event gave teachers a chance to connect with representatives from over 65 area businesses and organizations to help them get adjusted to Pasadena and to ensure they start the school year on a positive note.

As teachers browsed the dining hall to learn about various services available in the community, campus and central office administrators welcomed them to their new professional family.

“At Pasadena ISD, you are not just an employee, you are a member of our work family,” Dr. DeeAnn Powell, superintendent of schools said. “We are here to support you and help you reach your highest potential. If you are successful, your students will believe that they too can achieve success.”

At the end of the event, teachers collected bundles of school and personal supplies during the door prize giveaway. The door prizes were provided courtesy of event sponsors and vendors, including Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union, Mamarita’s Mexican Restaurant, Barnes and Noble-Fairmont, Chick-fil-A-Fairmont Pkwy, Gateway Printing and Office Supply, Peter Piper Pizza, Texas Roadhouse, Whataburger, Kwik Kopy and Steve Sipes-State Farm Insurance.

The welcome demonstrated the close ties between Pasadena ISD and area businesses, many of which have partnered with the school district for numerous years.

“The relationships we have established over the years with local businesses allows us to work together as a community to offer the best programs for our teachers and students,” Powell said. “We extend our gratitude to the sponsors and vendors for continuously supporting our teachers, and ultimately, our students. We look forward to working with you again in the future.”
