2018 Elementary/Middle school and Secondary Principals of the Year were selected recently by District and Campus Administrators.  Andrea Gilger from McMasters Elementary, and Joe Saavedra from Pasadena High School will represent Pasadena ISD at the Regional level.

Further, Robert Hasson was unanimously selected as the honorary Pasadena ISD ‘Principal of the year’ posthumously.

Hasson, the long-time principal of Park View Intermediate, passed away unexpectedly on October 20, 2017. He served the entirety of his 20 plus year career at Pasadena ISD, beginning his educational career as an ESL teacher at Jackson Intermediate. He then moved to Park View as an assistant principal before assuming the role of principal in 2000.

“Words can’t express how much this award means to our family and to Rob, as I know he will be aware,” said Rene Hasson, Robert’s wife.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. DeeAnn Powell said, “Rob was a good friend of mine; we were teachers together at Jackson Intermediate at the start of our careers. He loved kids, had a passion for education and was very supportive of his staff and the Park View Cowboys.”

The Board of Trustees will recognize Hasson and his family at a board meeting on February 27.

Gilger and Saavedra will be recognized at the 2017-2018 Region 4 Education Service Center Principal Recognition Ceremony on April 4.

“These principals consistently show outstanding leadership, hard work and dedication in giving students opportunities to be successful,” said Dr. Powell. “We are proud of their accomplishments and thankful for all they have done and continue to do for the students of Pasadena ISD.”

Gilger has served Pasadena ISD for over 25 years, starting as a music teacher at Kruse, Genoa and McMasters Elementary. In 1998, she assumed her first administrative role as a counselor at Golden Acres Elementary. Gilger then moved into an assistant principal position at Jensen Elementary in 2004 and was named principal at McMasters in 2010.

“It’s a great honor,” said Gilger. “I love Pasadena ISD and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”

Saavedra got his start at Pasadena ISD in 1998 as a math teacher at Jackson Intermediate before moving up to the position of assistant principal in 2002. He assumed the role of principal at Miller Intermediate in 2004 before being named principal of the Mighty Eagles of PHS in 2009.

“I’m very honored,” said Saavedra. “I love working here and I love our kids, our community and Eagle Nation; this is for them.”
