On Saturday, Oct. 24, Pasadena ISD and the Pasadena Lions Club will host the annual two-mile Walk for Sight event at Veterans’ Memorial Stadium, located at 2906 Dabney Drive. Now in its thirteenth year, the walk helps raise funds to provide eyeglasses for children in Pasadena schools.
“Walk for Sight gives the community and the district an opportunity to work together to support each other and teaches students the value of community service,” Pam Tevis, the district’s health, physical education and wellness coordinator said. “The event is being held in conjunction with Make a Difference Day, a national day of volunteerism which encourages individuals to pay it forward and become productive members of society.”
Each participating campus that raises at least $500 receives 10 percent of the money raised to use towards coordinated school health efforts on campus. Last year, the event raised about $20,000 for students in need.
Prizes will be awarded to students, teachers and school employees who collect the most donations. All students and teachers who participate in the walk will receive a t-shirt and two miles credit for their Get Fit Jog.
Parents are encouraged to participate in the walk with students.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the walk at 8:30 a.m.
Event organizers would like to thank the following sponsors for their contributions and service to the community and the students in Pasadena: Vision Eyecare; Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union; Meador Staffing; Bayshore Optical; Shared Resources Credit Union; ABF Printing Services; and Grace White Insurance.
