The Pasadena ISD Child Nutrition department announced today the winners of the third annual Space Spectacular Fruit and Vegetable Photo contest.
First place goes to Hannah Brooks of Turner Elementary for her pineapple and banana creation. Carson Hutcherson, also from Turner, is the second place winner for his Star Wars BB-8 droid creation. Luis Gomez, of Turner, placed third in the competition for his watermelon alien design.
All three winners will be rewarded with a bicycle later in the month. In addition, these students will have their photos featured in the district’s 2016-17 cafeteria calendar.
Participants were asked to create a space-themed fruit and/or vegetable creation and submit photos of the artwork. The top creations from participating campuses moved on to the district-level competition.
At the district level, parents were asked to vote for their favorite creations by liking the photos posted to the district Facebook page. The winners of the contest were determined based on the number of likes.
The contest, which included 31 entries, garnered attention from over 51,000 individuals.
District organizers hope the contest will get students excited about healthy eating end encourage them to add fruits and vegetables to their daily meals.
