|Dr. Kirk Lewis announced to the Board of Trustees on June 23 that he would be retiring in January, 2016. Dr. Lewis has been an inspiration to the staff and students in the district. We are forever changed for the better because of his influence.
Here is a copy of the memo he sent to the District staff.
|From the Desk of Dr. Kirk Lewis:
June 24, 2015
|It is with deepest admiration and respect that I tell you that Tuesday night I submitted my formal letter of retirement to the Board of Trustees, effective January 15, 2016. I began discussing this possibility with them more than a year ago and after much conversation, consideration and prayer, I believe the time is right for me, my family, and the Pasadena Independent School District.
When I leave in January 2016, it will mark the end of a 40-year professional career, the last 30 of which were spent in Pasadena ISD. During the last 10 years as Superintendent, I’ve watched with complete amazement and pride as you worked tirelessly to take care of our students and support each other. I cannot tell you with words how truly remarkable you are as educational professionals in every aspect of this work we love. Regardless of the job you hold, you have proven your commitment and love for children time and time again.
We’ve experienced so much together through the years…good times and difficult times. You have done all that was asked of you and so much more. No superintendent could be more proud or more honored to serve with you. As I shared with the Board, when you walk together through life with people like those in this district, you develop a bond that is truly one of life’s greatest blessings. You will be forever in my heart and in my prayers.
There is so much more I want to say to all of you, but we’ll save that for another day. In the meantime, we still have work to do and will keep our eyes focused on the future and our hearts focused on our students.
