| The Pasadena
Independent School District is one of the fastest growing districts in
Texas over the past three years, according to March enrollment information
released last week by the Texas Education Agency.
Among the 30 largest districts in the state, Pasadena ISD was ranked number eight in growth since 2001 behind only Katy, United (Laredo), Cypress-Fairbanks, Round Rock, Fort Bend, Northside (San Antonio) and Brownsville. Pasadena's student enrollment increased 5.8 percent to 45,890 students. The district's enrollment numbers made Pasadena ISD the 16th largest school district in Texas. Among the fastest growing districts on the list, only Cy-Fair, Northside and Fort Bend enroll more students than Pasadena. The percentage of enrollment change since 2001 was highest in Katy at 11.9 percent, followed by United (10.9 percent), Cy-Fair (10 percent), Round Rock (8.9 percent), Fort Bend (8.8 percent), Northside (8.5 percent), Brownsville (8.2 percent) and Pasadena. Current enrollment projections show Pasadena ISD's rate of growth continuing to climb for the next several years. If the projections hold true and the building boom continues, the district's student enrollment growth could exceed 59,000 students by 2008. |
