ATKINSON RAISES $5,700 FOR AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION

Atkinson Elementary Eagles raked in $5,752.78 earlier this month during the Kids Heart Challenge, an annual campaign to support the American Heart Association and promote heart-healthy habits.

Students were encouraged to participate with incentives such as wrapping a teacher in toilet paper, spraying silly string at the P.E. teachers and even taping the principal to the wall.

These incentives proved to be successful. Just ask Robert Aguilar, a 4th grade student who single-handedly raised almost $900 dollars alone – making it their highest ever single student donation.

The campaign also encouraged students to practice daily acts of kindness in addition to participating in heart-healthy activities.

"Our goal is to establish physical and emotional heart-healthy habits in our school now to provide the foundation for a healthy and successful future," said Katy Fielder, Atkinson Elementary P.E. Teacher.

"We are so proud of our students for helping those in need and working to live a healthier life in all aspects," praised Chris Bui, Atkinson Elementary Principal.
