SRHS FINALISTS WIN $10K IN SCHOLARSHIPS AT FORT WORTH STOCK SHOW & RODEO ART CONTEST

Sam Rayburn High School students Miranda Ramirez and Katie Galvez were named finalists at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo Art (FWSSR) Contest, earning a total of $10,400 in scholarship awards.

Ramirez was named the Grand Champion, earning the top scholarship award of $8,000. Galvez placed fourth, earning a $2,400 scholarship award.

More than 1,500 K-12 art students entered the Rodeo Art Contest, which required submissions that reflected the spirit of the Stock Show and its western heritage.

During the event, students also had the opportunity to highlight their talents and hone them. Ramierez, Galvez and three other Rayburn students were invited by the FWSSR to participate in an all-day workshop, hosted by the Cowboy Artists of America (CAA).

The workshop featured CAA artists, Bruce Greene and Teal Blake, who taught live demos covering a range of media and subjects, including live animals.

All the finalist’s winning artwork will be displayed, from Jan. 14-Feb. 5, at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo in the Amon G. Carter Jr. Exhibits Hall Concourse.
