Miller Intermediate is among only 17 teams in the nation selected to compete in the National Academic Pentathlon. The team is representing the Houston area in the competition which will last through the end of May.

The team has won first place at regionals for the past two years, but this is the first time the Miller Intermediate Falcons have advanced to Nationals.

“I am so proud of our students and coaches for all the hard work and countless hours they have spent preparing for the competition,” Vanessa Reyes, the school’s principal said. “Representing Miller Intermediate and Pasadena ISD at the National Pentathlon Competition is truly a remarkable achievement that continues Miller’s tradition of excellence and reflects the commitment to academics in our community.”

The competition is designed to improve critical thinking skills and help students prepare for the STAAR test. Seventh and eighth grade students are tested in five subject areas including mathematics, science, social studies, reading, and fine arts. Students will also compete in a Super Quiz which tests teams on all five subjects.

The team was led by Miller math teachers Aislinn Clinch and Norma Villarreal, and language arts teacher, Bitsy Cotter.
