John Eddie Williams, Jr., a 1972 Pasadena High School graduate, successful attorney and managing partner at Williams Kherkher Law Firm in Houston has been named by Pasadena ISD as the 2015 Distinguished Alumnus.

The product of Pasadena schools, Williams attended South Shaver Elementary and Queens Intermediate where he excelled in academics as well as athletics. Upon graduating from Pasadena High, Williams received a football scholarship to Baylor University where he earned a business degree before entering Baylor School of Law.

Williams found his niche in law school and soon discovered his passion for the law, graduating first in his class and also serving as the editor-in-chief of the Baylor Law Review. The son and grandson of longshoremen, Williams has been a passionate supporter of union workers, often representing members of organized labor.

Battling Big Tobacco
Williams' largest win in court came when he represented the State of Texas against the tobacco industry in 1995. Prior to this case, the tobacco industry had a record of winning 800 successive court cases. The victory in that landmark case resulted in the largest settlement in U.S. history, $17.3 billion.

Williams is as motivated by the law as he is with doing his part to help the community.

Caring for the Community
Along with his wife Sheridan, Williams supports many organizations in the community donating time as well as money.

The Williams’ are active in donating to research at MD Anderson and Memorial Hermann hospitals as well as the Houston Chronicle Goodfellows fund, a program that provides toys for underprivileged families at Christmas. They have long been loyal supporters of Baylor University, funding scholarships and supporting building projects.

Even with his high profile success, Williams has never forgotten his roots to Pasadena and is a generous supporter of the Pasadena ISD Education Foundation, helping fund classroom grants and putting supplies into the hands of students.

The public is invited to join Pasadena High School Alumni, district administrators and the Board of Trustees at a reception at noon, April 23 at the Dr. Kirk Lewis Career and Technical High School, 1348 Genoa-Red Bluff.
