Pasadena ISD will host two Early College High School informational nights on October 17 and 22, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., at Phillips Gym for parents of students from fifth to eighth grade who would like to learn more about the district’s ECHS program.

The free events will include a general overview of the program, a Q & A session with all five of the high school ECHS deans and inspirational success stories from previous ECHS students. Translators will be available for Spanish only speakers.

“Research indicates that students who get a head start on taking college classes in high school have a better chance of completing a college degree,” said Jennifer Boushley, district coordinator of Early College High Schools. “In these district-wide meetings, we will share details about the enrollment process and best ways to support students as they begin to make decisions about high school.”

Early College High School is a four-year program offered at all five comprehensive high schools in Pasadena ISD. The program provides students with the opportunity to earn an associate degree (or 60+ college hours) along with their high school diploma. Students in the program take college level classes at their high school campus in ninth and tenth grade and at San Jacinto College during their junior and senior years.

Upon graduation from Pasadena ISD, students can either receive an associate degree from San Jacinto College or transfer their credits to a four-year university to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

Tuition for ECHS is completely free to parents and all eighth graders are eligible to apply to the program.

ECHS students can still participate in extracurricular activities, including sports and band, at the high school campus or join clubs and organizations on the college campus.

Degrees that are offered through ECHS include:

Associate of Arts in General Studies
Associate of Arts in Business
Associate of Arts in Communications
Associate of Arts in Behavioral Science
Associate of Science in Life Sciences
Associate of Science in Mathematics
