The 2018-2019 Pasadena ISD School Board has been named the Region 4 nominee for Texas’ Outstanding School Board of the Year. PISD’s trustees will now compete against 12 regional nominees from across the state of Texas.

This marks the fifth time in 41 years that the Pasadena ISD Board of Trustees has been selected as a regional nominee. Previous honors occurred in 1978, 1991, 2003 and 2008.

TASA’s School Board Awards Committee will meet later this month to select up to five of the nominated boards to be recognized as Honor Boards. Those finalists will be interviewed at the TASA/TASB Convention in Dallas September 20-22, and one will be named Outstanding School Board of the Year during that event.

The Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) created the School Board Awards Program in 1971 to recognize school boards whose dedication and ethical service have made a positive impact on the school children of Texas.

“This recognition is a testament to the outstanding job our Board does representing the Pasadena ISD community,” said Pasadena ISD Superintendent Dr. DeeAnn Powell.

The 2018-2019 Pasadena ISD board consists of seven members, who have served the district collaboratively for over 140 years. They include President Mariselle Quijano, Vice President Nelda Sullivan, Secretary Marshall Kendrick, Assistant Secretary Jack Bailey, and members Vickie Morgan, Fred Roberts and Kenny Fernandez.

If the trustees win Outstanding Board of the Year for the state of Texas, it will be a first in Pasadena ISD history.
