South Houston Intermediate principal and 2019 H-E-B Excellence in Education secondary principal of the year, Laura Gomez, was recently named as the newest principal of Pasadena High School by the PISD Board of Trustees.
Gomez will take the helm at Pasadena High School following the promotion of former principal Joe Saavedra to Associate Superintendent of Campus Development.
A life-long educator, Gomez has spent her entire 25-year career in Pasadena ISD and the last 13 as principal of South Houston Intermediate.
In May of this year, Gomez was selected as 2019 H-E-B Excellence in Education secondary principal of the year from a pool of 58 finalists by a panel of judges including former winners, school administrators, and university and community leaders.
“SHI is top notch and there are amazing, wonderful and dedicated individuals at the school. I know that they will continue to build upon the successes we shared together and continue to move the campus forward.” said Gomez.
Prior to her time at SHI, Gomez served as an assistant principal at Bondy Intermediate, ESL teacher and department head at Thompson Intermediate and as a bilingual teacher at South Houston Intermediate.
She holds a Master’s Degree in Supervision and a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Elementary Education, both from the University of St. Thomas.
“I am so excited to be named as the new principal,” said Gomez. “I am looking forward to working with my new Eagle family and to continue the pride, traditions and successes that they have been having.”
