South Houston High School alumni returned to their alma mater recently to celebrate the campus’s induction of former students into the Hall of Honor.

The induction ceremony took place during homecoming, and featured performances by the school orchestra and choir.

The inductees were comprised of three faculty members and three SHHS alumni. The faculty members included: Betty Munz, Katherine Reid and Kitty Frazier Wilson. The alumni inductees included: Kenneth Esterak (deceased), Class of ’66; Bret Mixon, Class of ’76; and Jim Vaughan, Class of ’78.

After the induction ceremony, South Houston High students, staff and graduates gathered in the gym for a pep rally before heading to Veterans Memorial stadium to cheer on the Trojans football team.

The homecoming festivities continued with an open house at Phillips Gym, where attendees had a chance to explore the Pasadena ISD Athletics Hall of Fame Museum and enjoy light refreshments prepared by the school’s culinary arts students.

Before kick-off, the faculty and alumni inductees were recognized in front of a packed crowd at the stadium with a plaque presented by the school’s principal, Andrea Wenke.

South Houston fell to Kingwood, 0 to 19, but the spirit of homecoming was not diminished as students, staff and alumni rooted for the Trojans and showed their school spirit.

Renee Smith, SHHS Class of 1979, was rewarded at halftime with a $500 prize to stay at any Hilton Hotel and to dine at a Landry’s restaurant. The prize was part of SHHS’s Alumni Association’s first ever raffle giveaway, which was established with the goal of increasing participation in alumni activities.
